9 Metallic Makeup Looks You’ll Want to Try Now

Matte makeup is perfectly fine — don't get us wrong — but lately we've been really into metallic makeup (especially when it comes to eye shadow, and if you ask us, the more pigment and shimmer the better). Judging by the glistening lids we've seen on some of our favorite celebrities recently, we're guessing that we're not alone in our obsession. ut you know the old adage: Make new, erm, eye shadow friends and keep the old, one is silver and the other's gold. That's not exactly true these days, when there is a full spectrum of alloys in every shade imaginable. But you don't have to take our word for it. Just look to these nine stars as metallic makeup inspiration, from shimmering sapphire, dusky bronze, and every twinkle and glimmer in between.

At the Toronto premiere of Unicorn Store, makeup artist Rachel Goodwin set off the actress and director's brown eyes with a chunky rim of iridescent mint blue liner. A smudge of twinkly white on the inner corners worked as a frosty finishing touch.
What better way to accent a slinky LBD than with a soft and sculpted cat-eye in a smoldering rust bronze? Notice how the rest of the actress's makeup is relatively low-key — rosy blush, satin lips — so as not to compete with the eyes.
Fact: There is nothing wrong with a traditional black smoky eye. Nothing wrong at all. But there's also something truly special about one rendered in an unexpected metallic. Here, the model is working a reflective brass, but silver and gold tones would work just as well.
A near-transparent wash of rose gold glimmery shadow on the lids is amped up thanks to a thin strike of sapphire liner all along the bottom lashline.
Rae's makeup artist had many metals to choose from — there's silver, gold, pewter, and copper beads in the star's gown — when creating this look. Here, a soft wash of shimmery copper has a muted effect.
If ever you needed proof that you don't need to do a ton to pull off impactful makeup, look no further than these fluttery lashes and imperfect smudge of silver shadow on the bottom lashline.
What you can see here is how well Beckham's glitter-flecked lids work with her chunky stud earrings. What you can't see is that they also match her heels. Consider perking up an all one-color look with a palette of coordinating metallics.
If she weren't looking downward, you might think pinky lips and cheeks were the beginning and end of Williams' sleek makeup. Happily, an opaque wash of sunny gold on the inner corners and a dusky green swept across the lids give the girly look something sultrier.
Nyong'o lights up the room literally with her monochromatic makeup. A light dusting of shimmery shadow, a swipe of nude lip gloss, and softly smudged charcoal liner give her that elusive lit-from-within-glow that we're still trying to master. Simply stunning.
A halo of bronze shadow around the actress's lids has an almost-ethereal effect, but matte earth-toned lips ground the look.
When you mix two alloys you can end up with something stronger. And Davis shows that can be true of metallic makeup, as well. Here, her frosty eyeshadow is played up by her warm lipstick — and the result is gorgeous.
